Beware of Fake Traditional Radiators

Because traditional radiators have never gone out of fashion with the public, they are readily produced in modern styles. If you are going to buy online you should make sure that they carry the British Standard BS-EN422. You will have seen the British kite mark many times, I’m sure.

This is important because many Asian countries now produce these and some imports are below standard as they have somehow slipped through the net. When tests were done on a batch of these they gave out less heat than stated on the packaging.

Because many of these heaters are mass produced generally, you will be able to find one that suits your budget. Dearer models such as reproduction cast iron styles may last longer than the cheap end of the market. However, they should still give you years of heat.

These traditional models are a copy of the styles that our parents and grandparents used to have in their homes. Of course the up to date models have all the modern advantages such as the ability of having thermostatic valves fitted.

Nowadays everyone will want these as you can control the heat better in all rooms.  They are also produced in all kinds of colour. However, you will still be able to buy the traditional white styles.

The traditional styles fall mainly under the column radiators. They will have a set of columns according to the size of the room and the cast iron heaters are available as free standing models. This is because cast iron is heavier than other metals and they may not be suitable for modern walls.

Modern column radiators are mainly made out of steel or aluminium which is not so heavy and it is these types that you will be able to get in any colour to suit your decor.  All the different metals have energy saving properties in one way or another.

Cast iron takes longer to heat up, but once at temperature they will hold it for longer.  They can also withstand higher temperatures than the others.
