Energy Source Wars and Climate Change

The expression climate change is a relatively new one in most people’s lives along with global warming and limited fuel resources.

It’s all very complicated and the simple choice in the UK is choosing between electric radiators UK and gas fired central heating for our homes.

Oil always used to be the third option but there is a definite decline in oil fired central heating with a preference being given to electricity in the rural areas that lack a mains gas supply.

Many years ago electricity for central heating was considered extremely expensive and highly inefficient. Worst of all was the two or three bar electric fire that heated just a small area of the room before the heat went out the window.

It went out the window because it wasn’t until the 1970’s that the next important part of preserving energy came into being and that was double glazing and loft insulation.
Electric storage heaters came and mostly went and today in Europe around 40% of homes have gas fired central heating supplying hot water with 25% controlled by electricity and a rapidly dwindling number of coal fired heated homes.

Wood burning is on the increase particularly in the colder countries that generally have plenty of wood available.

With all forms of heating there is constant research and development to find the most efficient methods and the escalating price of all fuel means we have to choose the best for our particular needs.

Small properties that are well insulated may benefit from electric heating as will larger properties that may have gas central heating but could do with separate electric radiators in rarely used rooms such as spare bedrooms and conservatories.

The latest electric radiators that you will find plenty of at Designer Radiators Direct are very easy to install and all easy to programme. The advantage over conventional wet systems is that there is no pipework and they are completely silent.

When programmed properly for individual rooms they can be as economic to run as any other method and of course there is no maintenance such as boiler servicing.
